This Privacy Policy explains how The Bake-Keeper (“The Bake-Keeper,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects information about visitors to thebakekeeper.com and its associated pages (the “Site”), including anyone who signs up for our Free 7-Day Sourdough Starter Course, uses our “Save This Recipe” feature, subscribes to our newsletter, submits our contact form, leaves a comment or recipe review, or otherwise interacts with the Site. By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Policy.

Who We Are

The Bake-Keeper is a home-baking and sourdough education blog. For purposes of applicable data protection law, The Bake-Keeper is the “data controller” (or equivalent) responsible for the personal information described in this Policy. Information We Collect

Information you provide to us. We collect information you voluntarily give us when you:

• Sign up for the Free 7-Day Sourdough Starter Course (name and email address)
• Use the “Save This Recipe” form on a recipe page (name and email address)
• Subscribe to our newsletter or check the “new recipes & baking tips” opt-in checkbox (email address)
• Submit our Contact form (name and email address, and the contents of your message)
• Leave a comment or a recipe rating/review (name, email address, and the content of your comment or review)
• Otherwise correspond with us by email or through social media

Information collected automatically. Like most websites, when you visit the Site we and our service providers automatically collect certain technical information, which may include your IP address, browser type and version, device type, operating system, referring/exit pages, the pages you view and how long you spend on them, and the date and time of your visit. We collect this information through cookies and similar tracking technologies, described in the “Cookies and Similar Technologies” section below.

Cookies and Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies (such as pixels and local storage) to operate the Site, remember your preferences, secure the Site, and understand how visitors use our content. Some cookies are strictly necessary for the Site to function; others are used for analytics, functionality, or advertising purposes and are only set with your consent.

We use a cookie consent management tool (CookieYes) that presents a consent banner on your first visit, lets you choose which categories of non-essential cookies to allow, and lets you change or withdraw your consent at any time using the cookie preferences link or icon on the Site. You can also control cookies through your browser settings, though blocking all cookies may affect how the Site functions.

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

• Deliver the content you requested — for example, sending the Free 7-Day Sourdough Starter Course lessons, emailing you a saved recipe, or sending newsletter issues to subscribers who opted in

• Send marketing communications, but only where you have opted in, and always with the ability to unsubscribe
• Detect, investigate, and prevent spam, fraud, and abuse (for example, through hidden “honeypot” fields and minimum-time-to-submit checks on our forms)
• Understand aggregate trends in how visitors use the Site, where analytics tools are enabled
• Comply with our legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service

Email Marketing and Your Choices

If you sign up for our Free 7-Day Sourdough Starter Course, use “Save This Recipe,” or check a newsletter opt-in box, your email address (and any name or recipe information associated with that signup) is stored with our email service provider, MailerLite, which we use to send you the emails you signed up for. Newsletter and marketing emails are opt-in: the newsletter checkbox on our “Save This Recipe” form, for example, is unchecked by default, and checking it is the only way you are added to our general newsletter list.

Every marketing or promotional email we send includes a working unsubscribe link, and we honor unsubscribe requests promptly, consistent with the U.S. CAN-SPAM Act. You may also contact us directly to be removed from our lists. Our commercial emails identify The Bake-Keeper as the sender and include our email address, as CAN-SPAM requires:

Comments and Reviews

When you leave a comment or a recipe rating/review, we collect the information shown in the comment or review form, along with your IP address and browser “user agent” string, to help us detect spam. An anonymized string created from your email address (a “hash”) may be shared with the Gravatar service to check whether you are using it and, if so, to display your Gravatar profile photo next to your comment. You can review the Gravatar service privacy policy at https://automattic.com/privacy/. After your comment or review is approved, your profile photo may be publicly visible in the context of your comment. We use Akismet, an automated spam-filtering service, to screen comment submissions.

Analytics

As of the date of this Policy, we have installed but not yet activated a Google Analytics integration on the Site. If and when we activate Google Analytics, we will use it to understand, in aggregate, how visitors interact with the Site through cookies that collect standard internet log and visitor behavior information. Once active, you will be able to decline analytics cookies through our cookie consent tool, or opt out of Google Analytics generally by installing Google’s Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. We will update this Policy when analytics tracking is activated.

Third-Party Service Providers

We share information with a limited number of service providers who help us operate the Site, and only to the extent necessary for them to perform their services. These currently include:

• MailerLite — email delivery and marketing automation for our course, newsletter, and recipe emails
• Hostinger — our web hosting provider
• Wordfence — website security and firewall protection
• Akismet — automated comment spam filtering
• CookieYes — cookie consent management
• WPForms — our contact form functionality

We may also use additional service providers from time to time — for example, analytics, on-site engagement tools such as pop-ups or subscribe prompts, or social sharing widgets — and we will update this Policy to reflect any provider that materially changes how your information is processed. Our service providers are only permitted to use your information to provide services to us and are not permitted to use it for their own independent marketing purposes.

Affiliate Links and Advertising

Some links on the Site are affiliate links, including links participating in the Amazon Associates Program, meaning we may earn a commission if you click through and make a qualifying purchase, at no additional cost to you. We may use link-management tools (such as Pretty Links) to organize and redirect these links; clicking an affiliate link may result in a cookie being placed by the third-party retailer (for example, Amazon) to attribute the referral to us. Children’s Privacy

The Site is a general-audience site directed at adults and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the details below and we will take steps to delete it, consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

Your Privacy Rights

California Residents (CCPA/CPRA). If you are a California resident, you have the right to: know what personal information we have collected about you and how it has been used and disclosed; request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions; correct inaccurate personal information; and opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information. We do not sell personal information for money. To the extent any analytics or advertising cookies are considered a “sharing” of information under California law once activated, you can opt out through our cookie consent tool. We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.

Other U.S. State Residents. Depending on where you live (for example, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, Utah, and other states with comprehensive privacy laws), you may have similar rights to access, correct, delete, and obtain a portable copy of your personal information, and to opt out of certain processing such as targeted advertising or profiling. European Economic Area, UK, and Other International Visitors (GDPR). If you are located in the EEA, UK, or another jurisdiction with similar protections, our legal bases for processing your personal information include: your consent (for example, for marketing emails and non-essential cookies), our need to perform a contract with you (for example, delivering content you requested), and our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Site. You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information; to restrict or object to certain processing; to receive a copy of your information in a portable format; and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. Because we are based in the United States, information we collect from international visitors may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States.

Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” (DNT) signal. Because there is not yet a common industry standard for how to respond to DNT signals, the Site does not currently respond differently based on a detected DNT signal. You can still manage tracking through our cookie consent tool and your browser settings.

Data Retention

We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this Policy — for example, for as long as you remain subscribed to our email course or newsletter — unless a longer retention period is required or permitted by law. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or anonymize it.

Data Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, including a web application firewall and security monitoring (Wordfence), to help protect the information we collect. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
